Nebraska defensive lineman Ty Robinson was the first Husker taken off the board on Saturday, as he was a fourth-round selection (No. 111 overall) by the Super Bowl Champion Philadelphia Eagles. Robinson is the highest drafted Husker since 2022.

Robinson has been an anchor of the Blackshirts defensive front for the past several seasons, earning All-Big Ten accolades each of his final two seasons at Nebraska. In 2024, Robinson earned second-team all-conference honors when he led the team with seven sacks and 12 tackles for loss among his 37 overall tackles.  A disruptive force, Robinson also had four pass breakups, a blocked field goal and a tackle for loss for a safety.

In 2023, Robinson had 29 tackles, six pass breakups and four tackles for loss. He added 11 quarterback hurries and a blocked field goal and earned honorable-mention all-conference honors.  In 2022, he started all 12 games with 24 tackles, including four tackles for loss, and a pair of sacks.  Robinson finished his career with 134 tackles, including 26.5 tackles for loss and 12 sacks. He played in a school-record 60 games during his Nebraska career with 47 career starts.

Fidone Taken in Seventh Round of NFL Draft

Thomas Fidone II was the second Husker taken in the NFL Draft, as the tight end was taken in the seventh round (No. 219 overall) by the New York Giants on Saturday.

Fidone becomes the first Husker tight end taken in the NFL Draft since Tracey Wistrom in 2002. Fidone had his best season as a Husker in 2024 when he had 36 receptions for 373 yards, with his reception total ranking fourth on the team. He had multiple catches in 10 of 13 games during his senior season and finished his career by leading the Huskers with five catches in the Pinstripe Bowl.

Fidone started eight games in 2023 when he led Nebraska with four touchdown catches and ranked second on the team with 25 receptions. The four touchdowns were the most by a Husker tight end since 2010.

He was the second Husker taken as Ty Robinson was taken in the fourth round by Philadelphia.

Huskers Sweep Jayhawks in Sold-Out Spring Scrimmage

LINCOLN, Neb. - The Nebraska volleyball team took the court for the first time under head coach Dani Busboom Kelly and impressed with a sweep of Kansas in front of a sold-out crowd of 8,592 in John Cook Arena at the Bob Devaney Sports Center on Saturday night.

The teams agreed to play four sets no matter the outcome, and the Huskers showed out with a 25-20, 25-18, 25-21, 25-22 win while experimenting with different lineup combinations throughout the match.

Andi Jackson and Rebekah Allick each had 11 kills and four blocks while hitting .556 and .524, respectively. Hunter tallied 11 kills and hit .563 in her first action as a Husker. Harper Murray chipped in 10 kills, and Teraya Sigler had six kills and Taylor Landfair posted four. 

Bergen Reilly and Campbell Flynn split time at setter. Reilly had 19 assists and eight digs, while Flynn had 23 assists and three digs. 

Laney Choboy and Olivia Mauch both wore the libero jersey for two sets. Choboy had 18 digs and Mauch had 12. 

For the match, NU hit .285 and Kansas hit .214. The Huskers had eight blocks and served six aces. Kansas had four blocks and served four aces.

Set 1: Nebraska used a 4-0 run to take a 7-4 lead, keyed by Murray's jump serve. She had an ace, and Landfair and Jackson each had kills. Allick pounded two kills to help NU to an 11-6 lead, and kills by Murray and Jackson made it 15-11 at the media timeout. After Kansas cut it to 15-13, Jackson had a kill and Allick had a solo block to help NU back to an 18-13 lead. But the Jayhawks answered to get within 19-18 after a 5-1 spurt. Allick terminated to keep the Huskers in front, 20-18. Allick and Jackson posted back-to-back kills to make it 23-19, and Pierce and Jackson combined for a block for set point. The Huskers won 25-20. 

Set 2: NU got off to a hot start with kills by Allick and Murray. Freshman Ryan Hunter then had a kill and a block with Allick in her first collegiate action to make it 4-1. Murray and Jackson recorded kills to keep NU on top, 8-6, and Hunter tacked on two more kills for a 12-8 Husker advantage. Murray and Jackson put NU up 15-10 at the media break. Jackson smashed back-to-back kills for an 18-13 advantage, and Reilly served an ace before a kill by Allick made it 21-15. The Huskers closed out a 25-18 win to go up 2-0. 

Set 3: The Huskers fought to a 9-6 lead with Hunter posting three kills, Sigler two, and Choboy serving an ace. Landfair's second kill of the set and another by Sigler made it 11-7. Sigler tacked on another before Ryan followed suit for a 13-10 lead. But the Jayhawks answered with a 5-1 run to go ahead 15-14. Kansas then served long and Landfair tipped a kill to NU back in front. With the score tied 16-16, Allick posted a kill, and Hunter and Sigler stepped up once again for the Big Red to make it 19-17. Allick terminated again, and a block by Sigler and Jackson put the Huskers up 22-18. Hunter notched her ninth kill, and Jackson's 10th earned set point. NU won 25-21.

Set 4: Kansas came out strong, taking a 12-8 lead. Murray stepped up with two kills and a block with Jackson to help NU rally to tie the score at 12-12 with Choboy serving the 4-0 run. Grace Nelson answered with two kills for KU to put the Jayhawks back up 14-12, but Jackson combined with Flynn for a block and tallied a kill before a Mauch ace sparked the Huskers to a 19-15 lead. Kansas stormed back to tie the score at 20-20, but the Huskers were up to the task, scoring a 4-0 run with an ace by Keri Leimbach, a block by Allick and Hunter, and a kill by Murray. Another Murray kill ended the match, 25-22.

Horn, Sanderson Lift Huskers to Even Series

Ty Horn tossed six scoreless innings and Case Sanderson fell a triple shy of the cycle, as the Huskers evened the series at Maryland with a 7-2 win against the Terrapins on Saturday night at Bob “Turtle” Smith Stadium in College Park, Md.

Nebraska (20-23, 8-12 Big Ten) scored seven runs on 11 hits and an error, while Maryland (20-24, 6-14 Big Ten) recorded two runs, eight hits and three errors.

Sanderson reached base safely five times, going 3-for-3 with a double, a home run, three RBI, a run scored and a pair of walks. Cayden Brumbaugh also reached base five times with a 3-for-3 night at the plate with a double, two RBI, a run scored and two walks.

Robby Bolin and Max Buettenback doubled, and Dylan CareyJoshua Overbeek and Hogan Helligso recorded a hit apiece.

Ty Horn improved to 2-4 on the year after dealing six shutout innings. The sophomore allowed six hits and two walks while striking out five. Drew Christo allowed a run in one inning of work, while Casey Daiss surrendered one run across a pair of hits in two innings.

The Husker offense took advantage of a pair of free passes in the top of the second to break scoreless tie with just one hit. Sanderson and Overbeek worked back-to-back one-out walks, before Helligso lined a first-pitch RBI single to center field to give the Big Red a 1-0 lead.

Horn worked out of a bases-loaded jam with two outs in the bottom of the third, inducing a groundout to first to preserve NU’s 1-0 advantage.

Carey opened the fourth inning with a full-count walk, while Sanderson crushed an RBI double to the wall right field that plated Carey from first and doubled the lead to two.

The Huskers plated three runs on four hits in the top of the fifth to grow the lead to five. The first two runs of the inning came off three consecutive doubles off the bats of Bolin, Brumbaugh and Buettenback. The Huskers tacked on a third run when Sanderson’s RBI single to right field scored Buettenback from second and made it a 5-0 game.

An RBI groundout with the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh plated Maryland’s first run of the day and made it a 5-1 game through seven innings.

Riley Silva drew a leadoff walk in the top of the eighth inning. The senior moved to second on a sacrifice bunt and advanced to third on a groundout, while Brumbaugh’s first-pitch RBI single through the left side plated Silva and gave the Huskers a 6-1 lead.

The Terrapins immediately got the run back in the bottom of the eighth with a leadoff solo home run.

The Big Red added a run in the top of the ninth when Sanderson lifted a 2-2 pitch over the batter’s eye in center field for a solo homer to give Nebraska a 7-2 advantage.

Daiss retired the Terrapins in order in the bottom of the ninth to clinch the Huskers’ win on Saturday night.

Nebraska and Maryland conclude the three-game series tomorrow afternoon at Bob “Turtle” Smith Stadium in College Park, Md. First pitch between the Huskers and Terrapins is set for 12 p.m. CT.

Huskers Cold at Washington

Washington used a six-run first inning to even its softball series with Nebraska following a 10-2 five-inning win Saturday night in Seattle.

Washington had only three more hits than Nebraska, but half of the Huskies' eight hits went for extra bases, including a pair of home runs.

Hannah Camenzind homered for Nebraska (34-12, 13-5 Big Ten), while Ava Kuszak and Ava Bredwell each finished 2-for-3 with a double.

In the circle, Kylee Magee (6-4) fought her control early and took the loss. Magee allowed only two hits in 1.1 innings but walked five and hit a batter and was charged with five runs (four earned). After exiting the game in the first inning, Magee returned to toss a scoreless fourth inning. Emmerson Cope also saw action, allowing five runs (four earned) in 2.2 innings.

Morgan Reimer (14-6) earned the win in relief for Washington, which improved to 32-14 overall and 10-7 in conference play. Reimer allowed one run in 3.1 innings.

Washington got on the board first with a six-run first inning that consisted of four walks and two timely hits - an RBI single and a two-run double. 

With two outs in the top of the second, Bredwell singled to reach base and then stole second. Bella Bacon walked and Lauren Camenzind was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Jordyn Bahl walked and Bredwell crossed the plate to put NU on the board. 

The Huskies extended the lead to 7-1 in the bottom of the second on a solo home run. UW scored three more runs in the third inning to make the score 10-1.

Hannah Camenzind knocked a solo home run to bring the score to 10-2 in the top of the fifth, but it wasn’t enough and Washington grabbed the 10-2 run-rule win.

NU will face the Huskies in the series finale tomorrow, April 27, starting at 3 p.m. (CT). The game will be streamed on B1G+ and can be heard across the Huskers Radio Network.

Postgame Notes

Huskers Top Wyoming, 3-2

Behind three finishes, the Nebraska soccer team defeated Wyoming 3-2 in its final spring match of the season on Saturday afternoon. 

Nebraska held a 2-1 after the first half, as Sadie Sant and Sadie Waite tallied a pair of finishes. Sant scored in the 12th minute off assists from Waite and Lauryn Anglim, and Waite scored unassisted in the 27th minute. Wyoming earned a goal of its own in the 31st minute, but the Huskers held the advantage in shots on goal (3-2). 

The Huskers scored one more in the second half as Ella Rudney shot past the goalie into the back of the net in the 62nd minute off an assist from Charlie Wistrom. With the 3-1 lead, Wyoming scored in the 65th minute, but it was not enough as Nebraska held on for the 3-2 victory.
