Early Lead Holds Up as Rams Eliminate Pioneers

RALSTON, NE - In the first game of the B-3 District Tournament between the Nebraska City Pioneers and Ralston Rams, it was the host Rams that walked away with a 6-0 win thanks to a quick start on Thursday.
After the Pioneers stranded Jesus Martinez at second following a leadoff hit by pitch, Ralston capitalized off Nebraska City starting pitcher Camden Dalinghaus. A leadoff single from Brayden Vandervort, followed by an RBI triple from Bryson Sargent gave the Rams an early 1-0 lead. Kyle Gushard followed that up with an RBI groundout to quickly make it 2-0. By the time the inning was over, Ralston had pushed four runs across on four hits and an error. The Rams pushed another run across thanks to three more hits in the second, and then another run in the bottom of the third made it 6-0 Rams.
That would end up being the final score, as Ralston starter Dallas Whetzal pitched a complete game shut out. He allowed just one hit and only struck out one Pioneer as Nebraska City could never get hard contact off of Whetzal.
Callen Schnitzer had the only hit of the game for the Pioneers in the sixth, while Bryson Sargent led the way for the Rams with three hits and two RBI. Nick Benis also had three hits for Ralston, who finished with 12 hits for the game.
The Rams improved to 16-5 on the season, while Nebraska City ended the season at 5-15. Ralston will play Hastings for the District Title on Friday, after they topped Platteview, 7-3.
