BEATRICE – The field turf replacement project is underway at the Beatrice High School House of Orange and the Superintendent of the district announced Monday night the field will be getting a name.

"I'm happy to announce that in conversation with Cam Jurgens, he's agreed to have the field turf named after him....so it will still be the House of Orange...but Cam has agreed to allow us to name it Cam Jurgens Field."

Jurgens, a star football player and track standout who played tight end, fullback, linebacker and punter for the Orangemen, went on to play center at the University of Nebraska and was named as an All-Big Ten peformer.

Jurgens was drafted in 2022 with the 51st pick by the Philadephia Eagles. The fourth-year center earned Pro-Bowl honors this past season playing for the Super Bowl Champion Eagles.

Beatrice School Superintendent Jason Alexander says plans are to hold an event in the upcoming weeks in conjunction with the field naming at the House of Orange.

"We will keep you informed of the details, there's a lot at play. But, also understand with his fall schedule of training camp and season preparartion with the Eagles...it would be virtually impossible for him to be here in the fall during football season. So, we're trying to coordinate a summer event to dedicate the field to him, which I think is very deserving. We're excited to be able to do that and let you know that he's excited as well. So, we'll keep you posted and updated on the timing of all that."

New Field Turf installation beginning

Alexander says initially, there were plans to re-use part of the old field surface…but the overall wear of the surface was worse than anticipated.

"We had intended to use some of that turf to create a smaller turf field over at the elementary school, but looking at how it was starting to fall apart...it wasn't going to last very long, and we would be tearing it up and trying to plant grass. So, we just scratched that entire idea."

Cam Jurgens this past April agreed to a four-year contract extension with the Philadelphia Eagles for $68 million. It will pay him $17 million a year…..second among NFL centers only to the Kansas City Chiefs’ Creed Humphrey.
