SIDNEY -- The Sidney Board of Education was offered a proposal to update the multi-media production at the high school football field.

Red Raider Athletic Booster Club President Sarah Kaiser addressed the school board at Monday's meeting. She said the Booster Club would like to add a new scoreboard to Weymouth Field at Sidney High School.

"In discussions with Mr. Farber, we had talked about the need and the interest for a stadium display board. In those discussions, he said we actually have to come to the school board, and get your permission or at least get your approval to continue on this project. We are not asking for any funding for this project. This is through the Booster Club, and private funding and  loans," Kaiser said.

She said the stadium display board would be about 13 feet high by 25 feet wide. The display board would be a score board, screen and display sponsors. She compared it to the score boards in the Sidney High School gym, but much bigger. One bid will include a sound bar attached to the display board, she said. The school district would have the liability of the stadium display board because it would be on school property.

She said it could also be a class opportunity for students to program the board. Kaiser said the possibilities are endless, including movie nights.

"The budget for this is around $250,000. I would tell you that it could be $150,000, but it could be all the way up to $250,000. Again, we're not asking for any money. We're working on bids, quotes ... it depends on how many people want to invest in this," Kaiser said.

"The purpose of the Red Raider Athletic Booster Club is to support Sidney Raider athletics by raising funds, providing equipment, improving facilities, soliciting memberships, offering activities for members, promoting participation in athletics, encouraging attendance at athletic events, and assisting the athletic director, coaches and administration," Kaiser said.

The Red Raider Athletic Booster Club supports 11 high school athletic programs and seven middle school sports programs.
