KEARNEY, Neb. - Jack Hoffman captured the hearts of people across the nation during his battle with brain cancer, and on Friday he was posthumously honored with a degree at graduation day in celebration of his legacy.

Brianna Hoffman, pharmacist and co-founder of the Team Jack Foundation, delivered the commencement address to the University of Nebraska at Kearney’s Class of 2025, before accepting Jack's special honor by the university.

"The University of Nebraska is proud to award Jack Kaufman an honorary degree. His legacy will continue to inspire generations to come. Regent Clair will bestow the honorary degree on Jack's behalf to his loved ones," said UNK interim chancellor Charles Bicak.

Jack, who passed away in January following a long battle with brain cancer, had started his freshman year at UNK last fall.

His story inspired a statewide movement that has raised over $15 million for pediatric brain cancer research through the Team Jack Foundation, which Brianna and her late husband Andy Hoffman founded in 2011.

In her speech, Brianna encouraged graduates to find meaning and purpose, even in the face of adversity.

"In the words of Andy and Jack, if God opens the door, run through it. And, no matter what challenges may come your way, never give up," said Hoffman.

The honorary degree was presented in Jack’s memory, recognizing his courage, impact, and advocacy for pediatric brain cancer awareness and research.
