Sidney Junior Legion Baseball Rolls Past Gordon
SIDNEY – Kyle Jaggers stuck out 10 batters over 3 2/3 scoreless innings, to pick up his second win of the season, as the Sidney Platte Valley Company Post 17 Juniors rolled past the Security First Junior Regulators of Gordon 10-1 at Legion Field in Sidney on Tuesday evening. Sidney pitching allowed only two Regulator hits and one run over the 5-inning game.
At the plate, Sidney banged out six hits, three of which were doubles. Anderson Smelley led the way by reaching base three times, going 2 for 2 with a double and an RBI, while scoring two runs.
On the base paths, Sidney’s aggressive play tallied 12 stolen bases. Calvin Borgmann, Parker Dickman, Kyle Jaggers, and Weston Neumann each recorded a pair of steals.
The Sidney Platte Valley Company Post 17 Juniors improve to 2-0 on the season while the Gordon Security First Junior Regulators fall to 0-7. Gordon starter, Joey Ziller took the loss on the mound, giving up three runs on three hits while walking three in 1 1/3 innings of work.
In the nightcap, Gordon scored all their runs in one inning to win the Senior game 3-2 over the Sidney Seniors. Sidney surrendered three walks, a pair of singles, and committed two errors in the top of the fifth inning that erased a 2-0 Sidney lead.
Anderson Smelley and Sam Hulbert went three of four at the plate to pace Sidney’s offense. Calvin Borgmann took the loss on the mound for Sidney, allowing three runs on seven hits over five innings of work. Jackson Roffers picks up the win for Gordon, allowing two runs on 11 hits in 6 2/3 innings of work.
The Sidney Platte Valley Company Post 17 Seniors fall to 0-2 while the Gordon Security First Senior Regulators improve to 1-2.
Sidney baseball will travel to Fort Morgan Colorado this weekend for the Fort Morgan 17U Tournament. Sidney will face Fort Carson and the Rapid City Bullets on Friday, and then McCook and Fort Morgan on Saturday. The championship and consolation games will be played on Sunday.
