Fiscus earns MVP honors in West Nebraska All-Star Football Game
SCOTTSBLUFF — Sidney’s Reid Fiscus accounted for three touchdowns and earned Offensive MVP honors to lead the West team to a 21-7 victory over the East in the 47th annual West Nebraska All-Star Football Game Saturday at Bearcat Stadium.
Fiscus, who told the Rural Radio Network he was playing quarterback for the first time since his sophomore year for the Red Raiders, rushed for 104 yards and passed for 144.
“Coach Anderson, our assistant coach at Sidney, he told me about a month ago I’d be one of the guys at quarterback, so I was a little prepared coming in,” Fiscus said. “Once I got there, seeing the guys, and seeing who I was playing with, it felt good to be quarterback again.”
Fiscus opened the scoring with a 40-yard touchdown run in the first quarter, then hit Sidney teammate Patrick McCartney for a 74-yard touchdown pass in the second quarter. Fiscus also rushed for a one-yard touchdown late in the first half.
The win snapped a six-game losing streak for the West.
“It’s awesome,” Fiscus said. “I’m going to remember it the rest of my life.”
Chase County’s Tristan Jablonski was named Defensive MVP after recording three interceptions.
The East’s only touchdown came on a 98-yard pass from Overton’s Hayden Muirhead to Gothenburg’s Jackson Schwanz early in the second quarter. Muirhead finished with 219 passing yards. Schwanz caught three passes for 146 yards and a score.
Also contributing for the West were Scottsbluff’s Jhett Webb with 41 rushing yards and a fumble recovery, and Sidney’s Owen Gillham with 36 rushing yards and Austin Christensen was the sportsmanship award for the west team.
In the 41st annual West Nebraska All-Star Volleyball Match, the West swept the East 5-0 to win their second straight in the series, 27-25, 25-10, 25-19, 25-19 and 15-10.
Olivia Spady of Chase County and Emma Hergenreder of Scottsbluff were named Co-MVPs for the West. Reese Fleck of North Platte St. Pat’s earned MVP honors for the East.
