Radio show host completes 2nd 'Lawnmower Tour of Hastings;' station gives away lawnmower
HASTINGS, Neb. – After riding around Hastings for around 14 miles, a local radio station gave away a $6,000 lawnmower in the 2nd 'Lawnmower Tour of Hastings.'
The event put on by KHAS Radio in Hastings, saw their morning show host Brandon J McDermott ride a lawnmower in the back of a trailer bed across the town, stopping at various locations in between.
McDermott and company made visits at North Shore Real Estate, District 14 Bar and Grill, Start Over Rover, Furniture and Mattress Direct, Mary Lanning, Pat's Auto Repair and Towing, Gary Michaels Clothiers, The Cheese and Wine Shop, and Paul's Cigar Bar and Lounge.
The 'Partyline' host says this lawnmower tour is just one several ways that station is looking to positive impact and engagement on the community.
"Give away stuff, have fun, connect with the community, it's what it's all about," said McDermott. "Working with businesses, working with building promotion, working with the city, and working with people, and trying to make somebody $6,000 happier, you can't beat that."
Before the tour on Friday, station listeners submitted their guesses on how long they thought the tour would take, with the grand prize as a $6,000 riding lawnmower from EGO.
After crossing the finish line at Big G Ace Friday evening at 5:40 p.m., the time clocked in at five hours and 40 minutes, making Dennis Erickson the winner of the lawnmower.
