SIDNEY -- The highways were busy June 14 with bikers, cars and supporters of the 8th annual Ride for Suicide Poker Run.

Proceeds from the event supports Be Here, a local suicide prevention and awareness organization. One hundred thirty participants registered for the Poker Run; about 80 were on motorcycles, according to organizer Lavon Hajek. From all sources -- registrations, donations, live and silent auctions, 50/50 and whiskey pull -- donations came to $11,044,00.

The Poker Run started at the Silver Dollar in Sidney, Henry's in Sterling, The Bar in Sedgwick, Big Springs Saloon and concluding at The Rusty Bucket in Chappell.

Be Here will host a Walk/Run on Saturday, September 20.
