Roger Jasnoch is retiring after nearly four decades of putting Kearney on the map
KEARNEY, Neb. - A familiar face at the heart of Kearney's tourism and community development is stepping into retirement next week after nearly four decades of service.
Director of the Kearney Visitors Bureau, Roger Jasnoch, is reflecting on 38 years of growth challenges and community pride.
Originally from Loup City, Jasnoch's career started at the Chamber of Commerce in York before heading to Kearney to lead the Visitors Bureau- a role that would define his professional life.
Under his leadership the city saw the rise of major attractions like the Archway Museum, the Kearney Sportsplex, an expansion at the Museum of Nebraska Art, the growing convention business and more.
Jasnoch says he never expected to be in Kearney for so long, but added he wouldn't have it any other way.
"I thought I was going to be there five, six years, and all of a sudden I look at my calendar and it's 38 years later. I think God forgot about me because he left us here- and I'm glad he left us here in Kearney and not somewhere else. It's a very comfortable community and very well-rounded with the things to do," said Jasnoch.
With over 2,000 hotel rooms now available and conventions returning to pre-COVID numbers, Kearney has evolved into a regional destination thanks in part to Jasnoch's philosophy of relationship building.
He's saying "farewell, not goodbye" to the daily grind and isn't going too far, as he plans to stay involved in the community he helped shape by continuing to volunteer and greet visitors.
Jasnoch's time as Executive Director is coming to a close, but his legacy will continue to shape Kearney's future.
