VALENTINE, Neb. – Homeschool and nonpublic school students who want to take part in extracurricular activities at Valentine High School or Middle School will now be required to enroll in two public school courses, instead of just one. The Valentine Community Schools Board approved the change during its regular meeting Wednesday.
Of the two required courses, at least one must be part of the core curriculum.
Valentine School Board President Kris Larsen said students should be held to similar standards when it comes to participating in activities, and requiring an additional class helps ensure that.
Other highlights from the meeting:
- The board approved two teaching contracts: Randy Kluender will take on the industrial technology position, and Nicole Hotz will serve as the teacher at Cutcomb, a rural school in the district.
- Board members voted to replace the 46-year-old wooden bleachers in the Valentine High School gym.
- The board also approved partial reimbursement for Valentine Elementary School Principal Jay Elliott, who plans to take collegiate courses toward an administrative credential.
