SIDNEY – Chadron Platte Valley Company Post 12 starting pitcher Jack O’Brien held a hot-hitting Sidney Platte Valley Company Post 17 team to just four runs on five hits in a 15-4 five-inning win in the B-7 Area Junior tournament on Saturday evening. The loss drops Sidney to the loser’s bracket to face fifth-seeded Gering B & C Steel Juniors Post 36 in an elimination game on Sunday at 7:00 p.m. Third seeded Chadron will now face top-seeded Alliance Peltz Company Junior Spartans Post 7 at 1:00 p.m. in a winner’s bracket game.

Sidney pitching struggled to find a groove from the opening inning, giving up 13 hits, nine walks, two hit batters, while throwing seven wild pitches over the five innings. Sidney offense was unable to overcome their difficulties on the mound. Sidney’s lineup, which was averaging .386 at the plate, hit just 5 for 17 (.294) for the game. Sam Hulbert paced Sidney going two for three at the plate with three RBIs. Rhys Dorcey, who took the loss on the mound, went two for two at the plate with two runs scored and one RBI.

Sidney’s game with Gering on Sunday will be the third matchup between the two teams, with Sidney winning both prior contests. 8-0 at Gering on June 3, and at home June 27, 8-5. The winner of Sunday’s game will advance to meet the winner of the Alliance-Chadron game on Monday.
