SIDNEY – The Sidney Platte Valley Company Post 12 Juniors got exactly what they needed Sunday evening in an elimination game against the Gering B&C Steel Post 36 Juniors. Sidney, who had used up more pitching resources than they would have liked over the first two games of the American Legion B-7 Area tournament, got a complete game on the mound from Rylan Swope. Swope held Gering to three runs on five hits while striking out three and walking only one batter in an 11-3 win.

Gering opened the game with three straight hits in the top of the first inning to score the games first run. Sidney answered with three runs in the home half of the first to take the lead for good. Over the next four innings, Swope allowed Gering just two hits and no earned runs.

Sidney’s offense came back to life after struggling in Saturday’s loss to Chadron. After scoring three runs in the first, Sidney took control of the game with six runs in the second to take a 9-1 lead. On the day Sidney pounded out eight hits, two for extra bases, while putting up 11 runs. Rhys Dorcey paced Sidney by going two for two at the plate with two runs scored and three RBIs. Sam Hulbert had another good night at the plate going two for three with three runs scored.

With the win, Sidney improves to 16-6 on the season and advances to meet the top-seeded Alliance Peltz Company Junior Spartans at 7:00 p.m. Monday evening. Alliance is 27-3-1 on the year and has shut out both their opponents so far in the tournament, Imperial 15-0 and Chadron 9-0. Chadron will face Imperial in an elimination game at 4:00 p.m.

Listen to the Sidney-Alliance game live at 7:00 p.m. on 1340 AM/95.7 FM Cheyenne County Country, online at thebigboy987.com, or on the News Channel Nebraska app.
