VALENTINE, Neb. - Here’s the weekly report from the Valentine Police Department:

“During the week of July 13th to July 19th, the following arrest was made:

On July 16th, at 4:20 PM, officers responded to an assault in the 300 block of North Valentine Street.  A 28 year old South Dakota woman was arrested and charged with Assault in the First Degree, a felony, and Use of a Deadly Weapon to Commit a Felony.  The male victim, who suffered a cut to his chest, refused medical attention.

In all, officers responded to 53 calls for service, including:

11 traffic stops

4 welfare checks

3 assaults

1 non-injury accident

5 municipal code violations

Additionally, the police department became aware of a current scam involving text messages allegedly sent by the Nebraska Department of Motor Vehicles advising the recipient that they have an unpaid fine or costs.  These messages are fraudulent, and anyone receiving them should delete the messages.  As a reminder to the community, government agencies do not attempt to collect fines and costs over the phone, and especially not by text message.“
