HASTINGS, Neb. – The Hastings Police Department is revealing the results of a recent speeding enforcement campaign, which was made possible through a state grant.

HPD participated in the Speeding Prevention Enforcement campaign from July 14-31, which was funded through a grant from the Nebraska Department of Transportation.

According to a news release, the Speeding Prevention Enforcement grant allowed HPD Officers to work overtime hours conducting additional traffic enforcement throughout all areas of Hastings, with a particular focus on locations where speeding and injury crashes are more likely to occur.

HPD Officers worked an additional 130 hours of overtime during the grant which resulted in more than 120 citations being issued.

The majority of citations issued were for speeding and other traffic related violations.

However, citations for child restraint violations, no vehicle insurance, and reckless driving were issued along with four arrests for driving under the influence of alcohol.

Police say several stolen vehicles were also located during the campaign.

Enforcement actions like this aim to reduce speeding-related crashes, injuries, and fatalities, ultimately making the roadways safer for the citizens of Hastings.
