SIDNEY -- Dave Auwerda took possession of a new Chevrolet Trax Monday.

The four-door SUV is the result of Auwerda's hole-in-one July 15 at the 16th Annual Vince's Corner ABCD Double Blind Draw Golf Tournament. He delivered a hole-in-one on Hole No. 3.

After the hole-in-one was verified, Auwerda said the experience was "surreal." When spotters couldn't see the ball with binoculars, they ran to see if it was in the hole ... and it was. Monday Auwerda said it took a few holes before the realization of his achievement sank in. The hole-in-one earned him $30,000 toward a new car at Panhandle Auto Group.

He said he wouldn't have the car without the event sponsors.

"Panhandle Auto Group sponsored it. I wouldn't have a car without them, and if it wasn't for Henry Heeg and the Heeg family having the tournament I wouldn't have a car without them," Auwerda said Monday.

He said the tournament didn't automatically offer him any sense of luck or top of his game.

"You know I, I play in so many tournaments I wasn't really even thinking that it would happen. So, when I hit the ball I just said 'you know that's on a pretty good line, and everybody was watching. And I didn't really see it. I thought it was going by the hole," he said.

Chuck Christensen, of Kimball Chevrolet/Panhandle Auto, was playing in the tournament.

Jaren Windstrom, representing Panhandle Auto Group ownership, commended Auwerda on his hole-in-one. He also noted the rarity of a tournament having a hole-in-one.

"We've been doing it for 10 years as Panhandle, and we've done it 28 years total. This is the first time we've had a hole-in-one. It's an honor to have Dave here. Here's his golf balls so he has 12 more chances, and the keys to his car," Windstrom said Monday morning.
