Kearney swears in Gabe Kowalek as New Chief of Police
Gabe Kowalek has officially been sworn in as Kearney’s newest Chief of Police.

KEARNEY, Neb. - The city of Kearney is officially welcoming a new leader to its police department.
At Tuesday's city council meeting, Gabe Kowalek was officially sworn in as Kearney’s new chief of police.
Kowalek took the oath of office with family, city leaders and fellow officers in attendance.
City Manager Brenda Jensen spoke about the competitive hiring process, saying Kowalek stood out for his experience, leadership and vision for the department.
Kowalek says that he's committed to continuing partnerships with law enforcement agencies across the region while also maintaining Kearney as a safe and high-quality place to live.
Kowalek succeeds Bryan Waugh, who now serves as Colonel of the Nebraska State Patrol.
