Leyton school officials address bus threat
DALTON, Neb. — Leyton Public Schools and the Cheyenne County Sheriff’s Office are addressing safety concerns after threats were made this week on one of Leyton's bus routes.
The district confirmed Friday administrators were made aware of an incident involving a student making threats to others on the bus. The matter is under investigation by school officials and the sheriff’s office.
“The safety of our students is of the utmost importance to us, and we take these situations very seriously,” the district said in a letter. “We are taking steps to address the situation.”
Cheyenne County Sheriff Adam Frerichs told News Channel Nebraska the threat was reported by the school’s bus driver. The student who made the threats has been suspended with conditions to meet before returning. Deputies were stationed at both the Sidney bus stop and the school Friday morning to ensure the student complied with the suspension.
The district thanked community members for reporting the incident promptly and encouraged families to continue sharing concerns that could help ensure student safety.
The investigation is ongoing.
