COZAD, Neb. (KOLN) - Jared Crick has played under the brightest lights in college football and the NFL, but this week the former Husker star begins a new chapter—making his coaching debut at Cozad High School, his alma mater.

We caught up with Crick as he was leading the Cozad Haymakers through one of their final practices before the first game. Crick’s desire to lead the program has been a spark at the school and around the community.

Crick accepted the job in the spring and went right to work. He said he’s enjoying the journey and can’t wait for Friday night, under the lights, but this time with a head-set not a helmet.

“Getting used to my coaching style, it’s kind of old school,” Crick said. “I still get after them, but you have to keep it light. I have sarcasm. This game is stressful enough.”

Crick said he’s quickly learned that some of the biggest challenges about coaching have nothing to do with football, instead it’s field prep, equipment, communication and making sure the music play-list is ready before each practice.

Cozad fell to Sidney in their season-opener on Friday, 35-0.
