KEARNEY, Neb. - A Kearney police officer has been released from the hospital Thursday after getting involved in a crash involving a fellow member of law enforcement.

Kearney police said in a news release that officers responded to a serious medical emergency in northeast Kearney around 7 a.m. Thursday, when a KPD patrol vehicle and a Buffalo County Sheriff’s Office vehicle collided.

The crash happened on North Railroad Street near K Avenue.

Both vehicles were heading East when they collided, and the impact caused the KPD vehicle to hit a curb and roll several times before landing on its driver side, which trapped the officer inside.

Rescue crews worked to extricate the KPD officer who was then taken to CHI Health Good Sam with non-life-threatening injuries.

He has since been released, and the officer with the BCSO was not injured.

The Nebraska State Patrol is investigating the crash.
