KIMBALL, Neb. — Mitchell’s boys captured the team title at the Kimball High School Cross Country Invitational on Friday, while Alliance and Chadron earned top honors at the Chadron Invite in a busy day of racing across the Panhandle.

At Four Winds Golf Course in Kimball, Mitchell placed four runners in the top 10 to secure the boys team crown with 20 points. Junior Brody Fuss led the Tigers by winning the race in 18 minutes, 20 seconds. Teammates Carston Holt (fifth, 20:35), Drey Gardner (sixth, 20:39), Isidro Gonzales (ninth, 20:55) and Thomas Esselstein (10th, 21:34) sealed the win. Ron Varner of Bridgeport was runner-up in 18:31, while Kimball’s Braxton Miller (19:39) and Kaymen Lusche (20:10) finished third and fourth, respectively.

Mitchell’s dominance extended to the girls’ race, where freshman Lyndie Fillingham claimed the individual title in 23:49. Kimball’s MacKenzie Miller was second (24:18), followed by Pine Bluffs’ Natalia Caballero (24:39). Mitchell also placed sixth with Maegann Hawley.

At the Chadron Invite, Alliance edged Gering for the boys title, 64-72, paced by Trevor Zurn’s runner-up finish in 17:25. Gering’s Axton Stone took the individual title in 16:54, while Alliance placed four in the top 10, including Will Zurn (sixth, 19:11) and Asher Saka (seventh, 19:16). Sidney finished third in the team race with 85 points, led by Devin Roach in 10th at 19:47.

Chadron claimed the girls team championship with 44 points, edging Gordon-Rushville (53). Gordon-Rushville’s Rarity Cournoyer won the race in 20:43, while Rapid City Christian’s Taylor Harrelson was second in 21:38. Chadron was led by Gracie Calkins, who finished fifth in 22:20. Sidney placed third with 61 points behind Rayah Wolff (12th, 24:21) and Katie Dowse (16th, 25:14).
