North Platte woman arrested after burglary reported near Elsie
ELSIE, Neb. — A North Platte woman was arrested Monday after being discovered inside a rural Perkins County home when the residents returned from vacation, according to the Perkins County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies responded to a 911 call around Sept. 22, when a couple reported finding a broken window and someone inside their home near Elsie. Authorities said the couple stayed on the line with dispatchers while law enforcement arrived at the scene.
Sheriff’s deputies arrested 42-year-old Nicole Echo Russell without incident. She was booked into the Keith County Jail and faces charges of burglary, first-degree criminal trespassing, obstructing a peace officer, unauthorized use of a propelled vehicle, and criminal mischief. Additional theft charges may also be filed.
No injuries were reported. The Sheriff’s Office praised the quick actions of the residents and 911 dispatchers in handling what it called a “scary situation.”
Officials reminded residents that vacation security checks are available through the Sheriff’s Office at no cost, though no guarantee of full property security can be made. Authorities also encouraged homeowners to keep doors and outbuildings locked and to consider using home cameras for added protection.
