Hamburger, hotdog feed supports local family

DALTON -- The Dalton and surrounding community gathered for its annual festival this weekend.

The festivities started early with a 5K run. Proceeds support purchase of new park equipment for Dalton.

Coffee, rolls and breakfast burritos were available at the Senior Center from 8:30 to 10 a.m., the start of the parade.

The Leyton Volleyball Round Robin started at 9 a.m. Breakfast and lunch were available.

Immediately following the parade, residents gathered at the park. The park had lunch options, kids games, Beer Garden by the Sons of the American Legion, and a craft fair in Legion Hall.

This year, the Gurley Volunteer Fire Department hamburger and hotdog feed supported one of its own. Proceeds from the lunch are going to Gurley Volunteer Firefighter Tyler Miller.

"The fire department chose to support my family, especially my youngest daughter after some unexpected medical expenses. They wanted to give back to our family in some way," Miller said.

He said the Department decided to support Miller because it would be helpful, and beneficial, to the family.

"All the proceeds from that outside of their expenses are going to be donated to my family to help offset some of the unexpected medical costs that we endured a couple months ago when our youngest daughter a rare form of E Coli and had some complications from that and ended up over at Children's Hospital in ICU," Miller said.

If anyone would like to support the family but were not at the Dalton festivities Saturday, they can contact a Gurley firefighter, or Miller through social media.

As the afternoon continued, there were cornhole tournaments, horseshoe tournaments, goat roping and a puzzle contest.

Sunday included a community church service, followed by a breakfast served by the Gurley Lions Club.
