AUBURN, NE - The Lourdes Central Catholic Knights hit the road to take on the Auburn Bulldogs Tuesday night and fell in five sets after taking the third and fourth sets to tie the match up.

The first set was a game of runs as both teams utilized long service runs to take a lead but ultimately it was Auburn that got the lead late and held on for a 25-20 win. Bulldogs' outside Emery Taylor and middle Heidi Gerdes picked up where they left off this past weekend and paced the Auburn offense in the first.

The second set was much of the same, except the Knights made a few more mistakes and the Bulldogs' tough serving made it difficult for Lourdes to get the offense clicking between setter Josie Bennett and her outsides Brooklyn Borer and Mikena Haag. Auburn took set two 25-13.

The Bulldogs were looking to close this one out in three sets and they carried over the momentum from the first two sets in the early going. The Knights fought back and made it close down the stretch and thanks to Bennett’s serving, they pulled out set three 25-22. Lourdes trailed by as many as nine in the third but rallied for the win.

That forced a set four and the Knights' offense and serving picked up where it left off in the third. Borer racked up the kills, she finished with 19 on the night. The block for Lourdes started to wake up and made it difficult for the Auburn offense to get anything easy. The Knights won set four 25-18.

Despite winning the last two sets, it was Auburn that reversed the momentum and won the first couple of points in the fifth set. They were the first to 10 and held on from there for a 15-10 win in the fifth and a 3-2 win in the match.

The Bulldogs were led by Taylor who finished with a match high 23 kills. Jaidyn Glathar had 12 and Gerdes ended with ten. For Lourdes, Borer had a team high 19 kills, Amelia White ended with eight and Mikena Haag finished the night with six.

Auburn improved to 13-9 on the season while Lourdes fell to 16-8. The Bulldogs will be back in action Thursday at JCC while the Knights will host Johnson-Brock on Thursday.
