SCOTTSBLUFF — A Scottsbluff man was taken to the hospital with minor injuries Saturday afternoon after a motorcycle and car collided at the intersection of Highway 26 and Avenue B.

According to the Scottsbluff Police Department, officers were called to the scene around 2:47 p.m. after a blue 1995 Honda motorcycle driven by 19-year-old Braxton Speicher of Scottsbluff was struck by an eastbound 2017 Ford Taurus. The car was driven by 18-year-old Karina Morales of Torrington, Wyoming.

Investigators determined Morales failed to stop for a red light on Highway 26 before entering the intersection, striking Speicher’s motorcycle as it passed through on Avenue B. Speicher was transported by ambulance to Regional West Medical Center with minor leg injuries.

Morales was cited for a traffic signal violation. Police said the eastbound lanes of the intersection were closed for about an hour during cleanup and investigation.

The motorcycle was totaled, and damage to the Ford Taurus was estimated at $5,000. Scottsbluff Fire Department and Regional West Ambulance Service also responded to the crash.
