HALL COUNTY, Neb. — The Hall County Sheriff’s Office will soon have a new leader.

Sheriff Rick Conrad announced his retirement Tuesday, and the county board voted to accept it.

Conrad has served as sheriff since 2018 and says he’s stepping down to focus on family.

He recommended Chief Deputy Josh Berlie to take over, which is a move commissioners approved unanimously.

Berlie has been with the sheriff’s office for four years and previously served with Grand Island Police.

Conrad’s retirement takes effect December 22, when Berlie will step in as sheriff and plans to run for a full term next year.
