KIMBALL -- In May, Vistabeam celebrated the launch of its Fiber Project in Kimball.

On October 24, Vistabeam representatives returned to the Kimball area.

Stacie McDonald, Government Affairs and Public Relations with Vistabeam, said Friday's event celebrates new options for internet customers in Kimball.

Friday Vistabeam invited the public to celebrate new services available in Kimball.

"Well, it's exciting. We have lit up Kimball with fiber. We have over 1,500 passings, which means areas that go past either a home, business or other building that can now be served with fiber internet," McDonald said.

She said fiber offers a lot of advantages.

"Fiber is probably the latest and greatest in internet. It can go up to two gigs, which is quite fast. And, because a lot of fiber is either overhead on poles, or underground it is future-proof. It can be adjusted easily to upgrades. It's weatherproof. It has a lot of reliability and speed," she said.

McDonald said Vistabeam has both wireless and fiber options.

Kimball City Councilman Greg Robinson says the Vistabeam expansion is a win for Kimball.

"I think the fact of having up to two-gig service in a community is, is vitally important. It makes the community available to people who want to move up here from somewhere and, and do, do different jobs that require more speed than we currently have," Robinson said.

He also noted the investment Vistabeam made in the Kimball community.

"Obviously, they've made a big investment in the community which is great also. I think it's just a wonderful thing in general for the entire community," Robinson said.

Friday's event was held at Nebraska Coffee.
