BATTLE CREEK - With Halloween just around the corner, the Battle Creek Bravettes fit into the theme, coming back from the dead in Wednesday night's Sub-District Final win over Wayne in five sets (15-25, 21-25, 25-21, 25-19, 15-10).

The C1 Sub-District 6 matchup between #1 Battle Creek and #2 Wayne was a replay of a match just 13 days ago that ended in a Bravette win (3-1). However, the Blue Devils came into the match as winners of 6 of their last 8, including a 5th place finish in the Mid-State Conference Tournament.

Wayne began the first two sets strong, winning the middle portion of each set. The defense was the tone-setter for the Blue Devils, digging out tough shots left and right, leaving the hometown Battle Creek crowd in disbelief.

After going up 2-0, the Blue Devils were in a position to finish off the Bravettes in the third set, leading 21-19.

Battle Creek fought back, revitalized by a Ali Korth's impressive play in front of the net, securing a kill and two blocks in the final three volleys for the win.

The Bravettes had to come from behind yet again in set four, trailing 17-13. Karley Freudenburg led a charge of 10-straight Battle Creek points, including three aces.

With the momentum flipped, the Bravettes took the fourth set and dove head-first into the fifth.

The Bravettes opened up the fifth set on a 5-0 run, but the Blue Devils fought back to make it 10-8 late in the set.

Battle Creek took control in the end and held on for the set five win (15-10) which gets them back to a District Final for back to back seasons.

Ali Korth was unstoppable for the Bravettes, getting a double-double in the process with 19 kills and 10 blocks. Karley Freudenburg added 15 kills and four aces, while Marissa Hitz finished with 11.

Wayne was led by Haley Kramer's 12 kills and two blocks. She also had a pair of aces. Elle Powicki added 11 kills, while Lilly Redden had 8 kills.

Battle Creek's season continues into the District Final this weekend with the opponent to be determined.

For Wayne, their season comes to an end with a 21-13 final record.
