Frey Burns Knights as Lawrence-Nelson Advances in D2 Football Playoffs

ELMWOOD, NE - In the 8 vs 9 matchup of the D2 Playoffs, it was all Lawrence-Nelson Raiders as they went on the road and defeated the Elmwood-Murdock Knights on Friday, 78-42, as heard on B103. The Raiders got the ball to start and quickly went down the field in just under three minutes as star quarterback Wyatt Frey scored on a 35-yard rushing touchdown and a successful two point conversion made it 8-0.
Elmwood-Murdock was unable to respond as they went three and out. The Raiders capitalized as Frey ripped a 51-yard run to take it down to the five. He punched it in from there with another successful two-point conversion to make it 16-0 with six minutes left in the first.
The Knights got on the board thanks to quarterback Dashiell Coleman’s legs as he took it in from three yards out with four minutes left in the first quarter and a successful two point conversion made it 16-8. The Knights just could not stop Lawrence-Nelson as Frey ended up in the end zone again with another three-yard TD carry to make it 24-8. The Knights failed to answer, and again, Frey scored with an eight-yard touchdown. His fourth touchdown of the game made it 32-8 with still ten minutes left in the second quarter.
From there, the Frey show continued as he added a 31-yard TD Run, a 25-yard touchdown rush, a pick six on defense, a 31-yard touchdown pass to Kade Peters, and a four-yard touchdown carry with 16 seconds left in the first half to make it 70-24 at the half. The Knights were able to score on a 65-yard kick return and a Coleman 50-yard TD run earlier in the second quarter.
The reserves played most of the second half as Lawrence-Nelson added a touchdown and Elmwood-Murdock got three more, bringing the final score to 78-42. Through just two quarters, Frey had 15 carries for 242 yards and seven touchdowns and, adding in his pick six, he was responsible for eight touchdowns.
The Raiders improve to 9-1 and will travel to Howells-Dodge for a rematch of week one while the Knights finish the season at 8-2.
