Emergency crews on scene of anhydrous ammonia leak near Hastings
HASTINGS, Neb. - Emergency crews near Hastings are on the scene of a large anhydrous ammonia leak at a fertilizer plant.
People at plant first reported the leak shortly after noon at Macrosource, which was previously known as Gavilon Fertilizer. Adams County Emergency Manager Ron Pughes says there are multiple injuries related to the leak but none of them are considered life-threatening. According to Pughes, workers at the nearby Heartwell Renewables plant have been recommended to evacuate because there is an odor in that area.
Officials sent a mobile emergency alert around 3:30 instructing people to seek shelter indoors and shelter in place if they smell strong odors.
Crews remain on the scene and are actively monitoring the situation.
