Driver dies in Lincoln County vehicle fire near Lake Maloney

Authorities discovered a deceased driver inside a burned vehicle early Sunday, Nov. 16, after it crashed into a tree near the Lake Maloney outlet on North Lake Road, the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office reported.

NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (KNOP) - Authorities discovered a deceased driver inside a burned vehicle early Sunday, Nov. 16, after it crashed into a tree near the Lake Maloney outlet on North Lake Road, the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office reported.

Deputies were dispatched at 2:21 a.m. to reports of a vehicle fully engulfed in flames. Upon arrival, deputies and the North Platte Fire Department confirmed the blaze.

After firefighters extinguished the blaze, they discovered the driver, the vehicle’s sole occupant, deceased inside the wreckage.

Evidence suggests the vehicle was westbound on North Lake Road, approaching the east end of the dam near Anderson Subdivision, when it veered off the road to the left, struck a tree and caught fire.

Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office crash reconstruction investigators are handling the ongoing investigation and driver identification. The LCSO extended condolences to the family of the victim.
