KEARNEY, Neb. — Three Tri-City museums are teaming up again for the annual Tri-City Food Fight, a friendly competition to help restock area food pantries through the holiday season.

The Archway in Kearney, Stuhr Museum in Grand Island and the Hastings Museum are each collecting canned goods now through Dec. 31.

The Archway has participated for at least a decade, and staff say the event is especially important this year as some families face complications or delays in SNAP benefits.

“The Tri-City Food Fight has been going on over 30 years I believe, and it's just kind of our way of giving back to the community, especially now," said Archway marketing and events director Cherry Hill.

Donations can be dropped off at the Archway or the Kearney Public Library. For each item donated, visitors receive $2 off regular admission to the Archway.

Hill said the competition helps the three museums stay connected and showcases the community’s willingness to support one another.

Collection boxes are also available at local fire stations, the public library and other city department buildings.

The Tri-City Food Fight runs through Dec. 31.
