Stanton Student wins NDOT Name-A-Snowplow, learns about winter driving safety
STANTON, Neb.- The Nebraska Department of Transportation is adding fun into winter driving education.
The NDOT is in its fifth year of the Name-A-Snowplow competition.
The program gives students the opportunity to name a snowplow, while meeting the people who operate them.
NDOT District 3 Engineer Kevin Domogalla says the program has grown in popularity recently.
“It's really exploded over the last five years; the first year was just a few. This last year we just had over almost 4,500 students that have sent in names.”
Domogalla says that with so many submissions, it was difficult to make a decision.
This year, 16 snowplows were named. One student's submission at Stanton Public schools was chosen.
“Plow Chicka Plow Plow.”
Sawyer Pommer said Plow Chicka Plow Plow was her first and only name she thought of when she heard about the competition.
Domogalla loves the creativity with the names, but wants students to know that snowplow drivers go through extreme conditions so the kids can make it to school safe.
“The worst possible conditions driving, they’re the ones clearing the highways. So they’re really putting themselves on the line for the citizens of Nebraska.”
Students were able to see Plow Chicka Plow Plow and even sign the plow that will be keeping them safe on the roadway.
