LINCOLN, Neb. — Karsyn Leeling opened the indoor season with a strong performance Friday, placing second in the women’s high jump at the Husker Holiday Open as Nebraska track and field earned 18 event titles and set two school records in its season debut.

Leeling, a 2024 Sidney High School graduate, cleared 1.83 meters (6 feet) to finish runner-up in the high jump, matching the winning height posted by teammate Ela Velepec. Velepec claimed the event title on fewer misses after also setting a personal best at the height.

Nebraska dominated the meet overall, highlighted by record-setting performances from Axelina Johansson and Dyson Wicker. Johansson broke both the school and Swedish records in the women’s shot put with a winning throw of 19.72 meters (64-8½), while Wicker set a school record in the men’s pole vault by clearing 5.62 meters (18-5¼).

Cade Moran added a victory in the men’s shot put at 20.07 meters (65-10¼), moving into fifth place on Nebraska’s all-time list. Donna Douglas won the women’s weight throw in her Husker debut, and Seth Schnakenberg claimed the men’s weight throw title with a personal-best mark.

The Huskers also swept the 4x400 relays, with the women posting a 3:43.41 and the men finishing in 3:15.61.
