Gering girls claim team title at Sidney wrestling invite

SIDNEY, Neb. — The Gering girls wrestling team captured the team championship Friday at the Sidney Invite, finishing with 178 points to lead an 18-team field.
Alliance placed second with 112 points, followed by Gordon-Rushville with 103. Bridgeport and Southwest tied for fourth with 102 points each. Chase County finished sixth with 74 points, while Kimball placed seventh with 63. Host Sidney finished eighth with 62 points, just ahead of Ogallala at 61.
Gering earned multiple individual titles to secure the team crown. Rylee Luce won at 110 pounds with a fall over Gordon-Rushville’s Kynsleigh Krebs, while Kaydence McKee captured first at 125 with a quick pin against Wauneta-Palisade’s Ensley Lawless. Gering also picked up runner-up finishes from Rileigh Dane at 100, Autumn Hahn at 115 and Meredith Zlomke at 130.
Several other teams claimed individual championships. Southwest’s Capri Sayer won at 100 pounds, while Bridgeport earned titles from Elizabeth Menke at 115 and Morgan Amateis at 120. Chase County crowned champions Paige Owens at 130 and Hayley Rusher at 145. Alliance’s Aiva Raymer won the 140-pound division, and Gordon-Rushville’s Charlea Fancher claimed the 155-pound title.
Sidney wrestlers recorded several podium finishes, led by Izabella Liges taking third at 135 pounds and Monro Stewart finishing fifth at 170. Aspyne Houser placed fourth at 120, Rene Grumbianin took fourth at 130, and Makena Perez placed sixth at 140.
