Knox County Sheriff Don Henery
KNOX COUNTY, Neb. - A Northeast Nebraska Sheriff is running for re-election in the county he is suing.
Don Henery has announced that he wants another four years as Knox County’s sheriff.
He was first elected to the post in 2010 and served as a deputy for 26 years prior to that.
If Henery is re-elected, it would be while he is actively suing the county over the firing of his chief deputy and a 9-1-1 operator last year. A hearing in that lawsuit has been scheduled for later this month.
Henery is not the only candidate. Current City of Creighton Police Chief Mark Duncan has also announced that he is running.
Duncan has served as Creighton’s police chief for 16 years and has been a certified Nebraska law enforcement officer for 21 years.
