GLENVIL, Neb. — A Nebraska senator wants schools to teach students the dangers of communism.
State Sen. Dave Murman of Glenvil, proposed LB 1024 last week. The bill would require K–12 schools to cover communism in their curriculum.
Some of the specifics include what is described as “the increasing threat of communism in the United States and its allies through the 20th century."
Murman told the Nebraska Examiner that he has seen younger people who, in his words, seem to support socialism and communism.
Similar bills have already passed in Florida and Texas.
The Nebraska State Education Association came out against the bill, saying communism is already covered in Nebraska’s curriculum.
The bill has been referred to the Legislature’s Education Committee, which Murman chairs.
