BRIDGEPORT, Neb. — Garden County Eagles and South Platte Blue Knights captured team championships Saturday as the Minuteman Activities Conference Tournament concluded in Bridgeport.

Garden County secured the boys championship with a wire-to-wire win over Leyton Warriors, jumping out to a 23-8 first-quarter lead and cruising to the title. Senior Lane Brenneman scored 22 points to lead the Eagles, while junior Javis Underwood added 19 and senior Wilsie Lobner finished with 13. Garden County hit four 3-pointers and went 10 of 16 from the free-throw line.

Leyton was led by senior Alec Watchorn with 22 points, including a 4-of-6 performance from the line. Senior Kaleb Miller and junior Calvin Borgmann added eight points apiece as the Warriors finished 11 of 17 at the free-throw line.

On the girls side, South Platte claimed the conference title with a 35-26 defensive win over Garden County, holding the Lady Eagles to just six points in the first quarter. Senior Kaitlynn Brown poured in a game-high 20 points, knocking down six 3-pointers. Junior Ella Stanley added eight points and senior Jillian Frerichs chipped in seven as the Lady Blue Knights hit eight 3s overall.

Garden County was led by senior Ridglyn Stanczyk with 13 points, while sophomore Chanley Loomis scored seven and senior Bre Yates added six.

Earlier in the day, South Platte defeated Potter-Dix Coyotes 43-39 in the boys third-place game, while Bayard rallied past Potter-Dix 52-47 in the girls consolation contest.

Garden County finished the tournament 11-3 to claim the boys title. South Platte improved to 8-8 with the girls championship. Leyton finished second on the boys side at 8-5, while Garden County’s girls ended runner-up at 5-9.
