CHAPPELL, Neb. — A Creek Valley High School senior delivered a custom-made sign to the Deuel County Sheriff’s Office this week as part of a school-based skilled trades program at Creek Valley Public Schools.

Wyatt Holoday, a senior enrolled in the district’s Skilled and Technical Sciences program, presented the sign Tuesday. The project was completed through a small school-based enterprise class that produces custom signage as time allows, according to instructor John Russell.

Holoday is enrolled in multiple career and technical education courses and plans to attend Western Nebraska Community College after graduation to study welding. He has completed OSHA 10-hour Construction Safety certification and is currently taking a dual-enrollment introductory welding course, along with Creek Valley’s metal arts class. Holoday’s coursework has included metal fabrication projects such as knives, stained glass work and aluminum cast sculptures.

A lighthearted moment accompanied the delivery, as Holoday posed for a photo with Deuel County Sheriff Scott DeCoste using pink handcuffs provided by the sheriff’s office. Russell said the interaction was intended as a joke and reflected Holoday’s positive attitude.

Creek Valley administrators said the project highlights how students are applying technical skills while contributing to the local community and preparing for careers in the skilled trades.
