Deer Wins 600 Yards, Tanquary Takes Second at Charlie Foster Classic

UNK posted multiple standout performances Friday night at the Charlie Foster Track & Field Classic inside Cushing Coliseum, led by a victory from senior Mitchell Deer and a runner-up finish by freshman Talissa Tanquary, both formerly of Sidney.

KEARNEY, Neb. — Nebraska-Kearney posted multiple standout performances Friday night at the Charlie Foster Track & Field Classic inside Cushing Coliseum, led by a victory from senior Mitchell Deer and a runner-up finish by freshman Talissa Tanquary, both formerly of Sidney.

Deer won the men’s 600 yards with a time of 1:13.07, leading a dominant showing for the Lopers in the event. Nebraska-Kearney swept the top three places, with Evan Shaffer finishing second in 1:13.51 and Andrew Rentschler third at 1:15.80. Brady Waldmann added a fifth-place finish.

On the women’s side, Tanquary placed second in the 800 meters, clocking 2:20.82. Teammate Kassidy Stuckey won the race in 2:16.09, giving UNK a 1-2 finish. Anna Lindstrom finished fifth and Emily Bainter placed 10th to round out the Lopers’ entries.

Overall, Nebraska-Kearney won 16 events at the non-team-scored meet, which also included competitors from Fort Hays State, Hastings, Cloud County Community College, Dodge City Community College and Garden County Community College.

The Lopers continue their indoor season next weekend at the Bearcat Invitational in Maryville, Missouri.
