JULESBURG, Colo. — Sedgwick County Economic Development hosted its first-ever Career Cabs industry tours, providing Julesburg and Revere 10th- and 11th-grade students with hands-on exposure to career opportunities available within the county.

The program was designed after surveying local students to better understand their career interests and post-graduation goals. Based on that feedback, organizers created two small-group, industry-focused tours in health science and agriculture to allow for meaningful interaction and discussion.

With assistance from Julesburg High School senior intern Riley Jarrett, students visited local businesses, participated in on-site tours and spoke directly with professionals working in fields aligned with their interests. Organizers said the format encouraged open conversations and helped students gain a clearer understanding of potential career paths close to home.

Sedgwick County Economic Development officials said the goal of Career Cabs is not only to introduce students to local industries, but also to help young people envision long-term futures in the community while allowing businesses to invest in developing a local workforce.

Businesses participating in the inaugural event included Sedgwick County Health Center and The Gateway Medical Foundation, 21st Century Equipment John Deere, Platte Valley Veterinary Services and Seaboard Foods.

Organizers said plans are underway to expand Career Cabs to additional industries in the future as part of an effort to strengthen the connection between students, employers and the regional workforce.
