LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) - Several Lincoln high schoolers walked out of class on Wednesday to protest ICE.

Around 300 students from Southeast High School marched in protest around the school at 37th Street and Sheridan Boulevard. They carried signs and yelled chants to express their concern. One sign read, “skipping our lessons to teach you one.”

Lincoln Southeast sent an email to families informing them of the students’ choice to walkout and emphasized that student walkouts are not approved nor organized by Southeast High School or Lincoln Public Schools.

“Our schools are focused on providing a normal learning environment for all students. While they are not sponsored by our school nor the school district, we cannot stop a student from exercising their first amendment right and walking out as long as they are not disruptive to others.” - Lincoln Southeast High School.

Lincoln Police was on scene to ensure everyone’s safety.

A school resource officer eventually asked students to end the protest because they observed people being unsafe in vehicles near the marchers.
