Single-vehicle rollover on Highway 19 results in citation

A single-vehicle rollover on Highway 19 Friday evening was caused by distracted driving. The driver was cited and transported for treatment, authorities said.

SIDNEY, Neb. — A single-vehicle rollover crash Friday evening on Highway 19 in Cheyenne County was caused by distracted driving, according to a report released by the Cheyenne County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies were called at 7:43 p.m. Friday to a traffic accident near the intersection of Road 20 and Highway 19. The 18-year-old driver of a white Dodge 2500 pickup was traveling northbound on Highway 19 when he crossed the center line into the southbound lane, then crossed back into the northbound lane before leaving the roadway and entering the east ditch.

According to the sheriff’s office, the pickup rolled onto its right side while sliding, then rolled back onto its wheels, coming to rest facing southeast in the east ditch. The driver was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.

The driver was transported to Sidney Regional Medical Center by Sidney Regional Medical Center EMS for treatment and was issued a Nebraska Uniform Citation and Complaint for violation of hand-held wireless communication device use, first offense.

No other vehicles were involved in the crash. The incident remains under investigation by the Cheyenne County Sheriff’s Office.
