UPDATE (2/25/26 11:25 a.m.) - Kearney Police issued an update on Wednesday describing the operation as the serving of a high-risk search warrant. They specified the exact charges are Use of a Firearm to Commit a Felony, Possession of a Firearm by a Prohibited Person, Terroristic Threats, 1st Degree False Imprisonment, 3rd Degree Domestic Assault, as well as a Parole detainer. The statement said police activated the Emergency Services Unit because of the nature of the charges.

“The safety of our community is our highest priority," Chief Gabe Kowalek said. "The ESU team performed exceptionally, safely taking the suspect into custody while ensuring no harm came to bystanders. I am incredibly proud of the professionalism, skill, and efficiency displayed by our Emergency Services Unit.”


KEARNEY, Neb. — Kearney police called the SWAT team Tuesday morning to arrest a man for multiple felony charges.

Police Chief Gabe Kowalek says officers served an arrest warrant around 9 a.m. at the Centennial Park Apartment Complex, where 39-year-old Christopher Aron was taken into custody without incident.

Aron faces charges including felon in possession of a firearm, use of a deadly weapon to commit a felony, false imprisonment, terroristic threats and domestic assault.

Police say the Emergency Services Unit was deployed to ensure the safety of officers, the suspect and residents at the apartment complex.

The incident is still under investigation, and police said more details will be revealed in the coming days.
