NORDEN, Neb. - A lightning strike sparked a grass fire Monday afternoon northwest of Norden, burning an estimated 110 acres, according to Springview Fire Chief Scott Hallock.

Crews were dispatched around 4:15 p.m. and worked for several hours to contain the flames. Most units cleared the scene by 7:00 p.m., though a few stayed on longer—and three of those trucks were redirected to help with a separate fire near Johnstown.

As News Channel Nebraska has reported, multiple departments and a plane are continuing to battle the Johnstown area fire, which also broke out Monday.

“We’re just at the point where the green grass is starting to come in, but there’s still a lot of dead grass out there,” Hallock said. “We need moisture badly.”
