Panhandle cities break heat records
Scottsbluff, Chadron and Alliance all hit new daily highs Monday
By News Channel NebraskaSCOTTSBLUFF, Neb. — Unseasonably hot weather pushed three western Nebraska cities into the record books Monday.
According to the National Weather Service in Cheyenne, Chadron hit 95°F, breaking a 109-year-old record of 88° set in 1915. Scottsbluff reached 93°, topping its 2007 record of 92°, and Alliance hit 91°, edging past the 2007 record of 89°.
The record-setting heat comes as temperatures continue trending above average across the region.
Tuesday’s forecast calls for mostly sunny skies with a high near 88°. Winds will shift from the south to the east at 5 to 15 mph, with gusts up to 25 mph possible.
The National Weather Service encourages residents to stay hydrated and be mindful of heat exposure during afternoon hours.
