Wind farm investigation findings expected at Tuesday’s Cherry County Commission meeting

VALENTINE, Neb. - A key update in the investigation of a controversial proposed wind farm near Kilgore is expected Tuesday during the Cherry County Board of Commissioners meeting.
Zoning Administrator Jane Stolzenburg has been reviewing a formal complaint against Sandhills Energy, the developers behind the BSH Kilgore wind project. She’s scheduled to present her findings at 1:45 p.m. at the Cherry County Courthouse.
As News Channel Nebraska previously reported, opponents of the project claim the developers violated local zoning regulations. The company received a conditional use permit in 2019, but that permit expired on Oct. 15, 2024. The complaint also alleges that Sandhills Energy failed to prove that it met the 12 conditions required by the permit—and never received approval to begin construction.
If the investigation finds violations, the zoning administrator could order construction to stop or pursue legal action to bring the company into compliance.
Back in October, Sandhills Energy Senior Vice President of Operations Michael Knapp said the BSH Kilgore wind farm would include 14 turbines and was preparing to break ground soon.
