MEAD, Colo. - The Colorado State Patrol is seeking witnesses of a fatal, two-vehicle crash that occurred in the southbound lanes of Interstate 25, just north of Highway 66, near Longmont, at approximately 5:50 A.M. on March 9, 2026.

Preliminary reports show that while traveling southbound on I-25 in the left lane, a white work van signaled and began moving from the left lane into the right lane. At the same time, a red Ford F350, which had been traveling behind the work van, attempted to pass on the right. The Ford F350 ended up driving onto the shoulder of the roadway. As the Ford merged from the shoulder back into the right lane, the front right corner of the work van clipped the Ford’s rear left corner.

This caused the Ford to spin out of control and travel across the left lane into the concrete barrier. The Ford traveled down the concrete barrier, then overturned as it continued southbound. The Ford came to final rest on its roof facing west in the southbound lanes. The work van drove onto the west shoulder of the roadway after it struck the Ford, stopping on its wheels, facing south.

The driver of the Ford was pronounced dead on the scene.

The Colorado State Patrol’s Vehicular Crimes Unit is leading the investigation and is asking for information from anyone who may have witnessed the crash or any driving behavior of either vehicle before the incident. The Colorado State Patrol’s Vehicular Crimes Unit is also requesting any dash camera footage that may have captured the vehicles' driving behavior before or at the time of the crash.

If you have any information, please contact the Colorado State Patrol Denver Dispatch Center at 303-239-4501 and reference case VC260072. Please be prepared to leave your name and contact information for a return call.
