LINCOLN — Douglas County West built a big lead and held on to beat Ogallala 43-39 and pull off one of the biggest upsets of the boys state tournament.

With the win, the #4 Falcons advance to the Class C-1 state title game for the first time in program history. The school had not won a boys state tournament game until this year.

The defeat marks the first loss of the season for the #1 Indians. They will play in the third place game on Saturday.

DC West held the high-powered Ogallala offense to just 1-18 shooting from beyond the arc. The 39-point output was far below the Indians’ previous season low of 56 points.

The Falcons led for nearly the entire game. They had a 35-23 advantage heading to the fourth quarter and fended off an Ogallala rally to earn the win.
