Children, aged three and six, found in distress, possible drug overdose

The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office was contacted by the emergency department at Great Plains Health concerning two small children being treated for a possible drug overdose.

NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (KNOP) - On April 10, the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office was contacted by the emergency department at Great Plains Health concerning two small children being treated for a possible drug overdose.

A three-year-old and a six-year-old were reported as being in serious distress at the hospital. The parents of the children were not present at the time, according to the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department. A grandparent brought the kids to the hospital.

Later in the day, 27-year-old Emily Martin of Sutherland was arrested for Felony Child Abuse and placed in the Lincoln County Detention Center. Deputies also met with 30-year-old Joshua Holmes of Sutherland. Holmes lives with Martin in Sutherland. Holmes was also arrested for Felony Child Abuse and placed in the Lincoln County Detention Center.

The children were placed in protective custody and a search warrant on the property was conducted of the residence. The investigation is ongoing and additional charges are likely.
